Q: What discounts are available?

The following are available auto insurance discounts: Multi Car, Account Credit (home and auto with the same company), Low Mileage, Alarm, Auto Group Membership, Good Driver, Loyalty / renewal Credit,  Senior Citizen, Public transit.

Q: How can I save money on my Auto Insurance?

The following are ways that you can save money on your auto insurance:
* Raise your deductible.  Your deductible is the amount of money you pay out-of-pocket before your insurance policy kicks in. By requesting higher deductibles, you can lower your costs substantially.
* Consider removing Collision and/or Comprehensive coverage if you have an older car, or one with high mileage.
* Make sure that you are receiving the above mentioned discounts, if applicable.

Q: What Limit of Liability should I choose?

Ideally, we recommend a limit of liability insurance that is commensurate with your net worth.  For many, this involves the purchase of an Umbrella Liability policy.

Q: Will my Massachusetts auto policy cover me if I rent a car in a foreign country?

The Massachusetts auto policy provides coverage in the United States, Territories, Possessions and Canada. The liability limits you carry on your Massachusetts auto and the Physical damage to the vehicle will follow you.
Note that Liability coverage when renting outside of this territory can be provided under an Umbrella Liability policy.
We do not have the ability to provide Physical damage to the rented or borrowed car when renting outside of this state.

Q: Should I purchase extra coverage when renting a car?

As above, there are territorial limitations.  If renting in United States, Territories, Possessions and Canada, your Massachusetts Auto will follow you. The coverage you have at home will apply to the rental car.  The rental agency may require that you reimburse them for loss of use of the vehicle and may require that you provide them with a new car should the rental be stolen or totaled.  Your Massachusetts auto policy will not pay for these items.

Q: Can I borrow a car from a friend or relative?  

Yes, permissive use is allowed.  Note: all licensed members of the household and those that regularly operate your car should be Listed operators.

Q: What can I expect to receive as payment if my car is stolen or involved in a total loss?

The Actual Cash Value: this is defined as replacement cost minus depreciation.   You may want to consult NadaGuides to get an idea of the value of your car.  Some companies do offer replacement of a vehicle if totaled and purchased less than 12 months with 15000 miles or less.

Q: What payment options are available?

Single payment, monthly installments, automatic checking account withdrawal (eft).

Q: What criteria shall I use when choosing an auto insurance carrier?

Check the AM Best & Co. financial rating. Check for availability of drive in claims centers and/or independent claims adjusters. Does the company have a good reputation?
